About Alexandra

Alexandra has spent her entire life pursuing the arts. Enrolling in all sorts of artistic programs as a kid, refusing to stay home from school on art class days, she loves to create things. As she got older, that turned into a love of working with her hands. She drifted from drawing and painting to sculpting. She started by making a life-size man entirely out of pipe-cleaners. In the midst of that three year project, she dabbled back and forth with clay. But it wasn't until her Senior year that she fell in love with metal. English Rose, a professor at a pre-college program at Carnegie Mellon, turned her on to the beauty of the mig welder and she never looked back.
Alexandra went to Connecticut College for her undergrad and majored in sculpture. She tried it all; metal, clay, wood, glass, plaster, found objects. Her senior project was a life-size full body cast out of plaster. Unfortunately, art jobs are hard to come by so after graduation she returned home to help her mother open a designer dress shop in Squirrel Hill.
As much as she loved helping out her mom, Alexandra needed more. She started having fun making goofy cakes for her friends and family for birthdays so she thought why not try that. She enrolled in a couple Wilton courses to learn some of the basic decorating skills. Although she enjoyed making rose covered basket weave cakes, it still wasn't enough, she needed a little more. Using her intense sculptural background, she progressed to carving out of cake. Now she pushes the limit with her cakes whenever she gets the opportunity. Please take a look through her portfolio to see what she could make for you!
