| Fancy Cakes
These cakes have a more traditional look to them. They use the classics of cake decorating.
Flower Bunches
This cake was made for my Mama's birthday. It's a 9 inch round yellow cake. The yellow base is a buttercream icing. The swirl drop flowers are made with extra meringue powder so that they would stiffen. I made 150 in advance, let them dry and then positioned them around the cake accordingly. There is also a green leaf boarder around the bottom.
Violets
This cake was made for my friend Katie's Grandmother's birthday. It's a 8 inch round half and half cake. The base is a light purple buttercream. The violets are made of royal icing. I made 300 or so in advance and positioned them accordingly after they had hardened.
A Basket of Flowers
This cake was made as a housewarming gift for my new roommates. It's a two layer egg shaped yellow cake. The sides have a basket weave pattern made out of white buttercream. The top and bottom of the cake is outlined with a twisted rope boarder. The flowers were all made in advance with royal icing. There are roses, pansies, daffodils, primroses, mums, violets, apple blossoms and button flowers on this cake. All of the bunches are accented with pulled leaves. The birds are made with color flow icing. | |
