The 3D Cake!
These are my favorite kinds of cakes to make because they're so challenging and really give me the opportunity to make fabulous sculptural creations. Take a look at what I've attempted so far!
The Barnyard!
This was one of my favorite cakes to make! This was made for a little boys first birthday! The entire barnyard and base are chocolate cake and white buttercream. The smash cake is yellow. The barnyard and silo are covered in fondant. All of the critters are made of fondant as well except for the ones on the smash cake, they're made of icing. The fence is fondant as well. The path is made from cake crumbs, the pigs are laying in chocolate and the ducks are sitting in blue gel. I was very pleased with how this cake came out and would be happy to make it again!
The Golf Bag!
This cake was made for a client's boyfriends 33rd birthday. She wanted a 3-D golf bag. It's a yellow cake with white buttercream icing. The clubs and the detailing are made of fondant while the blue bag is icing.
The Tennis Racquet!
This cake was made for my friend Shannon and the Pitt Tennis team. The racquet is a life-size model of an actual tennis racquet made of a two layer yellow cake with vanilla icing in between. The head of the racquet has a layer of white fondant on top and blue fondant on the sides with it built up to make the rim. The strings and the embellishments are from a fondant writer. The handle yellow fondant. The tennis ball is a little sphere of yellow cake with buttercream icing. The Pitt logo is made from fondant.
The Blues Harmonica!
This cake was created for my friend Chet's 24th birthday. He has a local rock band so I recreated his favorite Harmonica out of cake! After way too much drawing, planning and calculations, this cake was made entirely to scale! The rectangular bottom part is a double layer of chocolate sheet cake while the carved top part is a double layer of yellow cake. This monstrosity was carved from a crude square chunk of cake. All of the icing is white buttercream. And although it's poorly depicted in the photo, the writing is embellished with cake glitter.
The Pitt Helmet and Basketball!
This was a grooms cake. The bride had asked for both a Pitt helmet and a Pitt basketball. Both of them are made of yellow cake and decorated with white buttercream. The base cake is a double layer carrot cake with cream cheese icing.
